Medicinal marijuana ready for sale

Four years ago Delaware legalized medical marijuana, but for Delawareans who need their medicine there’s been no way of getting it legally because no dispensaries were set up to fill prescriptions – until today.
First state compassion in Wilmington, Del., is Delaware’s first medicinal marijuana dispensary. The store, which is privately owned, opened its doors Friday to long lines of patients eager to get their prescriptions filled.
However some patients were dissatisfied once they got in the doors.
“As far the compassion goes, as far the prices that we’re paying for this it’s just ridiculous,” said John Peters, one of the store’s patients.
47 ABC learned the prices are $55 for an eighth of an ounce of marijuana or $17 for a gram. Some customers found those prices a little too high.
“These aren’t people that’s have a ton of money, they’re on assistance and it’s just absolutely – they’re not going to able to afford the medicine that they need,” said medicinal marijuana activist Darryl Lewis.
First State Compassion does have options for low-income patients, but those plans are still in development at this time according to their website.
Peters, who suffers from chronic back pain and diabetes, said he was also upset that all the strains and the oils he planned to use to keep his diabetes down were not available.
Those oils, according to medicinal marijuana expert and University at Albany professor Dr. Mitch Earleywine, could be in high demand.
“Folks who really like the dabs or the oils tend to report that if they can get to it quickly they get a rapid onset, a whole lot of THC in the system right away and they can get relief from those symptoms pretty quickly,” Earleywine said.
First State Compassion told 47 ABC that the oils and all strains will be available next week and that due some internal problems their full selection will not be available during their opening weekend.
