UPDATE: Driver charged in crash injuring 15 people

Delaware State Police say they have charged one driver in a four vehicle crash, that injured 15 people in Millsboro.

Authorities say, the crash happened just before noon Saturday at the intersection of Route 113 and Dagsboro Road. Reportedly, 79-year-old Walter Warrington, of Frankford, was driving a 2005 Mercury Marquis northbound when he attempted to make a left hand turn onto Handy Road, on a solid red light. As Warrington began to cross the intersection, reports say he drove directly into the path a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country, being driven southbound by 34-year-old Robert Stabley, of New Castle. As a result of that impact officers say Warrington then hit a 2002 Suzuki X17 pick-up truck, driven by 22-year-old Shakila Hudson, of Frankford, which had been stopped on eastbound on Handy Road. Apparently, Warrington then struck a 2009 Nissan Maxima, driven by 27-year-old Benita McCray, of Frankford, which was also stopped on eastbound Handy Road. Warrington’s vehicle then reportedly overturned onto its side before coming to a stop.

Warrington, Stabley, McCray, and Hudson who were all reportedly properly restrained at the time of the crash, were removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Beebe Healthcare, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Seven passengers in Stabley’s vehicle were all removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. An eight passenger, a 40-year-old female from New Castle, was removed from the scene by Delaware State Police Troop 2 helicopter and flown to the Christiana Hospital where she is currently being treated for her serious injuries.

Three passengers in Hudson’s vehicle were also removed from the scene by EMS. Two were transported to Beebe Healthcare while the third was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Reports say all were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Warrington was cited by troopers with failure to stop at a red light.
