Eagles come from behind to win 3rd straight DI championship

The Smyrna Eagles trailed 20-8 with less than 4 minutes to go in the third quater in their DIAA Division I championship game against undefeated Middletown. The Eagles did everything but waver. Smyrna kept their composure to reel off 22 straight points to take an 8 point lead with 2:38 remaining in the game, and going on to win their 3rd straight title 30-27 at the University of Delaware on Saturday afternoon.
"We just had a relentless mindset saying we're not going to lose this game," said Smyrna senior running back Will Knight. "They fought blood, sweat, and tears to make it happen for the seniors."
Knight was one of the main ingredients in the comeback, accounting for all three Smyrna touchdowns when his team needed them the most, including a 41-yard touchdown pass. In total, Knight accounted for all 4 of the Eagles touchdowns, and 3 two-point conversions.
He ends his career as the state's all-time leader in points and rushing yards, along with 3 consecutive championships, and one strong claim as the best player to ever walk onto a Delaware high school football field.
