DSP investigates fatal motorcycle crash in Dover

The Delaware State Police say, they are currently investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Dover that took a life of one Smyrna man.
According to police, the accident occurred on Tuesday just before 5:00 PM. Apparently, 62-year-old David Hemphill of Smyrna was driving a Harley-Davidson north on Kenton Road approaching Central Church Road behind two other cars. As the two vehicles in front of Hemphill reportedly turned east onto Central Church Road, a Hyundai driving west on Central Church Road by 55-year-old Michael August of Smyrna was preparing to turn south on Kenton Road, when it pulled into the intersection from the stop sign into the path of the motorcycle. Reports say, the Harley then struck the left front corner of the Hyundai, ejecting Hemphill into the roadway.
Police say, Hemphill who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. August, who was properly restrained, was uninjured.
No charges have been filed at this time and alcohol does not appear to be a factor as the Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident.
Kenton Road at Central Church Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
