Grant worth over 890k awarded to DSAAPD

A three-year grant worth $898,324 awarded to the Delaware Division of Services for Aging and Adults with Physical Disabilities (DSAAPD) will be used to expand services and support for Delawareans with Alzheimers and related disorders, according to officials.

Division Director Jill Rogers says the grant builds on the Delaware State Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, which was released in 2014.

We’re told the funds will specifically be used to broaden the existing legal services program in Delaware to address the specific needs of individuals and caregivers. It will also reportedly go towards developing a pilot sensor technology program to protect the health and safety of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders who live alone, plus a training and consultation program through the Delaware Caregiver Resource Center to support family caregivers.

The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services reports an estimated 17,000 Delawareans that are 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s disease. That number is expected to grown by over 35 percent to 23,000 people between 2015 and 2025, according to DHSS.
