Troopers investigate fatal crash on Route One in Dover

The Delaware State Police say, they are investigating a single fatal crash that occurred Monday evening on State Route One outside of Dover.
According to reports, the incident happened just after 5:30 PM as 44-year-old William Brown Jr., and his passenger, 43-year-old Dawn Corson, both of Middle River, were traveling southbound in the right lane on Route one near Scarborough Road in a Chevrolet. That’s when two other vehicles traveling in the left lane, one behind the other, next to the Chevrolet apparently were in the process of passing when the first car began to move into the right lane. Police say, it quickly pulled back into the left lane without colliding with the Chevrolet. At the same time, the Chevrolet reportedly veered to the right shoulder to avoid contact with the vehicle and pulled back into the right lane. Moments later the Chevrolet allegedly swerved back to the right and down an embankment where it struck a large tree with the front bumper. Police report, the impact caused the Chevrolet to rotate clockwise hitting another large tree on the driver’s side and then rotating over onto the passenger’s side before coming to a stop.
Police say Brown, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene. Corson, was reportedly airlifted to Christiana Medical Center where she is currently admitted in serious condition.
The initial non-contact vehicle reportedly stopped after the crash, but he second non-contact vehicle continued southbound without stopping and no information was provided on its make and model. The right lane on Route One near the crash was closed for approximately three and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
