A Look Back at the Record Breaking Warmth

I’m dubbing it Delmarva’s December “Heat Wave!” The past three days have been quite exciting in the weather department because record high temperatures were broken in several locations on the peninsula.

Salisbury reached the low 70s Saturday through Monday and so did Georgetown. Each day broke a record high for those sites. Monday was the warmest day with highs reaching the mid 70s! The temperature reached 73 degrees in Salisbury on Monday, breaking the old record of 71 set back in 1918 (a 97 year old record). That is impressive! Georgetown literally destroyed their old record of 67 degrees set back in 2007 when the high hit 75 on Monday.

Not only did Delmarva see records, so did nearby airports including Philadelphia, Reagan National in DC, BWI in Baltimore, and Dulles in northern Virginia. Some of those records were as old as a century or more.

This raging El Nino continues to bring a very warm east coast and there are no signs of the pattern changing anytime soon. In fact, this weekend looks cold, but it will only be temporary. Record highs could break again as we approach Christmas. I know, crazy!
