Lewes Lowes re-opened after suspicious item investigation

Shopping at a Lewes home improvement store was disrupted on Monday, after a suspicious item was reportedly found outside.

Delaware State Police say Troopers responded to the Lowes on Plantations Road, in Lewes, for reports of a of a suspicious item located in a shopping cart outside of the store. Once on scene, Troopers say they closed all entrances to the building, and kept patrons inside of the store.

The Delaware State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit then responded to the scene, and apparently found that the item was a piece of PVC pipe with two end caps. It has reportedly been determined to be non-explosive.

Lowes has since been re-opened. Police say the investigation is on-going at this time, however police do say no charges will be filed.

Troopers add that although there is no known threat to Delaware, state officials are reminding citizens of Delaware of the important role they have in helping to keep our state safe by reporting suspicious situations or circumstances that could be related to crime or possible acts of terrorism.
