Perdue Foundation donates to Horizons Salisbury Summer Learning Program

The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation says that they recently awarded a $7,500 grant to help support the Horizons Salisbury Summer Learning and Academic Connections Program.

The Foundation is a charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms. The Horizons Learning Program is a yearly six week academic instructions, enrichment and cultural activities program for 132 low-income Wicomico County public school students who get free and reduced meals going into first through ninth grades.

Yvonne Terry, executive director of Salisbury Horizons, says, "We are extremely blessed to receive this donation from the Perdue Foundation. Their continued partnership and generosity helps us transform the lives of students caught in the achievement gap. Our research shows that the lack of learning in the summer puts low-income students as much as three years behind their peers by the fifth grade."

Kim Nechay, executive director of the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation says, "We at Perdue are honored to be a long-standing partner with the Horizons program and are pleased to provide our continued support.

They do amazing things for at-risk youth in our area and have made such a difference in the lives of so many children."
