Marksmen help flood victims while having some fun

Across Delmarva, people are coming up with unique ways to raise money and other essentials to send to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Shooters at Delmarva Sporting Clays & Rifle Range in Mardela Springs hit their marks to help Hurricane Harvey victims by holding a contest on Sunday afternoon.

"All of the money in the competition is going to Hurricane Harvey, so that helps a lot," said marksman Michael Parks.

The shooting range and Jim Wright, owner of Train Wright, are using the competition to partner with Win Transportation to send the proceeds down to the affected regions.

"We're enjoying some beautiful weather right now.  And unfortunately, Texas has been suffering.  There's countless people in the area who are collecting donations for Harvey relief," said Wright.

Wright says he is inspired by seeing so many people who are finding ways to donate to hurricane victims, and he felt this was a unique way to send help to those in need.

"So I just put two and two together and I go 'what can I do.'  I get to enjoy this, doing what I love to do, why can't I turn that into something that can help."

And for Wright, and the competitors who came to the range, its a chance to help strangers in need while doing something they love.

"It feels good, it was a good day to come shoot knowing that we could do something for somebody that needs.  So it's nice to participate in one way or another," said competitor Patrick Parks.

"The fact that I can couple that and help somebody at the same time, you really can't put words to that," said Wright.  "For me, this was just, it was a last minute idea that has turned out to be pretty productive today."

Entry fee for the competition was 10 dollars per person, with the competition going on for much of the afternoon.

Jim tells us that he will re-evaluate after the event, and find out what else is needed in the gulf coast region.
