Magnolia man arrested on weapons charges following traffic stop

MAGNOLIA, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Magnolia man on multiple charges following a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.

Just after 2 p.m., troopers on patrol in the area of Walnut Shade Road and Barney Jenkins Road observed a Buick Century traveling westbound with the driver, later identified as 29-year-old Hershial Morris, not wearing his seatbelt. A traffic stop was initiated, at which point the trooper saw a loaded .22 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun in plain view.

Morris and two juvenile passengers were detained, and a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the loaded handgun, 24 rounds of ammunition, and approximately two grams of marijuana.

Morris was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of ammunition by person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, driving while suspended, and seatbelt violation. He was later released on his own recognizance.

The two juveniles were not charged and were released to their guardians.
