MILFORD, Del. – Community and religious leaders will be gathering for a Milford Community Day of Prayer. “As a member of the Milford community, I wanted to pull community leaders together – religious leaders together – just to have a time of trying to figure out how to deal with our feelings,” said Reverend Jeanel Starling.

The event is happening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 28th at Milford Bicentennial park. Rev. Starling tells 47ABC that prayers for love, peace, justice, and unity will be said – and there will be music for people to enjoy. “It is a time to come together as a people regardless of who you are. A time to come together to have a voice in what is going on. I think people have been in their homes and they’ve been sheltered and everything,” said Rev. Starling.

Rev. Starling says that she wanted to find a way for the community to come together and heal in the wake of George Floyd’s death – and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The reverend says prayer is just one way to do that. “When people are able to sing, when people are able to pray or hear prayer it does something to the spirit – that innate thing within us tends to resonate with others,” said Rev. Starling.

Rev. Starling says Milford’s mayor will be there to say a few words. Five religious leaders will offer their prayers. People planning to attend are asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing.
