Del. Electric and Choptank Electric issue beat the peak alerts

Delaware Electric Co-operative and Choptank Electric Co-operative have issued a beat the peak alert for Wednesday.

According to the companies, because of warmer than usual temperatures across the region, officials are asking customers to delay the use of all unneeded lights and appliances on Wednesday between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Home cooling systems use the most electricity in the home during these hours and in the hot weather. Officials are asking that customers turn up their thermostats three degrees. Other large consumers of electricity include major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers and water heaters.

By delaying the use of unnecessary lighting and appliances and by turning up thermostats by three degrees on Wednesday between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., officials can save energy resources, avoid high cost energy and help the environment.

Officials are thanking members for their voluntary effort in participating in Beat the Peak.

Delaware Electric Co-operative says that they will monitor the situation and let customers know if they need to send more alerts throughout the rest of the week.
