Police: Intoxicated man violates protective order during Del. incident

A Milford man was arrested and charged with numerous crimes after police say he was involved in a domestic violence incident.
The Milford Police Department Patrol Division responded to a disconnected 911 call in the 100 block of SE 3rd Street, around 6:30 AM, on Saturday. According to the report, when the officers arrived they spoke with a distraught victim who had informed them that 28-year-old Juan Vasquez-Matos had arrived at the residence unannounced.
Officials say the victim attempted to contact 911 and prevent Vasquez-Matos from entering the residence, when he lunged forward, struck the victim in the face, and took the victim's phone.
According to the investigation, a March 2018 protection from abuse (PFA) order was issued for the victim and Vasquez-Matos placing the latter in direct violation of the order. Officers learned that Vasquez-Matos was under the influence of alcohol at time of the incident.
He was committed to the Department of Corrections until he was sober enough to see a judge.
Vasquez-Matos was charged with malicious interference emergency communications intentionally prevent or hinder, offensive touching, and criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order. He had a presentment later in the day and was released from the Department of Corrections on $2,000 unsecured bail and issued a no contact order with the victim.
He was ordered to appear in Sussex County Family Court at a later date.
