A Delaware police department reports that National Drug Take Back Day resulted in over 80 pounds of medications being turned in to law enforcement.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department says on Saturday, they collected 86 pounds of prescription drugs as part of Drug Take Back Day. "Drug Take Back Day" was a national event sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency

According to officials, the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health says 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs.

In regard to the amount of drugs collected, Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks says, "It's a good indicator of how much surplus medication is out there."

The police chief states that by turning over unwanted or expired medication, it not only keeps the environment clean but also prevents pills from getting into the wrong hands.
