Two general stores in Dorchester Co. close; vacant spots available for new opportunities

If you need to buy different products from bait to food to beer, there is no better spot to go to than a general store. General stores used to be a hot spot across the nation and Dorchester County was no exception.
The county had over 100 general stores. But now those numbers are dwindling, they only have a handful left.
Dorchester County's Department of Tourism says these stores are a huge part of their heritage and economy.
Just recently, two other well-known stores closed up shop. The Lewis General Store and Reids Grove Country Store are currently on the market.
Dorchester County says they hope someone can fill them up and create a new tradition for the county.
The Director of Tourism, Amanda Fenstermaker, says, "I think it's a great opportunity for restaurants. I think it's great opportunity for providing those much needed amenities who want to do outdoor recreational opportunities like bait, tackle or even kayak rentals or bike rentals."
Simmons Center Market is one of the few general stores left in the county. They've been open since 1937.
They tell us that their old fashion grocery store has been up and running after all these years because they offer something unique and different.
