Ocean City launches special events zone with Spring OC Cruisin’ event

Ocean City is revving up for it's highly anticipated Spring Cruisin' event, but they want to remind people this year's car show will be a little different with the introduction of the new special events zone.

Ocean City officials tell us fines for things like speeding will be higher from Tuesday until Sunday in areas along Coastal Highway and Philadelphia Avenue.

Not only that, but the speed limits on coastal highway will be lowered to 30 miles per hour.

The goal is to slow everyone down and encourage people to comply with the law.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan said, "We have signs everywhere we're hoping what it does is eliminates the problem, we're not really looking to write the tickets but we will have strict enforcement we will have more officers out there than we ever did during one of these events and we really hope that everybody complies."

Legislation that paved the way for these special events zones to be created passed during this years state legislative session.

The bills were in response to concerns that speeding and other traffic crimes spiked in Ocean City during car events like Cruisin.
