Brittingham Tosses 1-Hitter As SU Continues To Roll

The Salisbury University softball team picked up their 7th straight win Monday morning when they defeated York 2-0. The win improves the Sea Gulls were led by senior Annah Brittingham who tossed a 1-hitter to lead her team to 24-4 on the year.
Salisbury would find themselves in a pitching duel early on as Annah Brittingham would at time struggle finding the strike zone, but was throwing to hard for any of the Spartans to catch up to. The teams would be scoreless til SU finally got something started in the bottom of the 4th. There, Brittingham would start it off with a single to right. After she stole 2nd, she would advance to 3rd off a fielders choice. Katie Sebbane then hit a chopper to short that would get bobbled, for a RBI single. The Gulls weren;t done just yet, as Caitlin Lake would rope a single into right center to drive in the 2nd run of the inning. Brittingham continued to cruise along, til she ran into some trouble in the 6th. After walking the leadoff hitter, a blooper was hit just past Brittingham and in between the first baseman. The ball would get bobbled, leading to another base runner off an error. The play wa slater reviewed by officials following the game, and play was changed to a hit. Then both runners would advance off a past ball to get runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out. Brittingham would settle down though, striking out the next batter, followed by a great play by catcher Paige Knussman. After a dropped strike three, the runner on 3rd would take off for home, but Knussman was able to locate the ball, and make a diving tag to preserve the shut out. A fly out would end the inning, keeping the no-hitter intact. Brittingham would then take the bump in the 7th, and close out the game with a comebacker and force out at 1st for the win.
SU returns to action for the second game of the double header today.
