Wicomico economic impact scholarship gets green light

Wicomico County held a budget hearing in the Civic Center on Thursday, and a major topic of discussion, was money budgeted toward the Wicomico economic impact scholarship.  The scholarship allows any Wicomico County resident to get financial aid from the fund the year that they graduate from high school.  The students must first apply for all available financial aid, and whatever is leftover would be covered by the scholarship.  Students would be then able to attend Wor-Wic Community College for free.

President of Wor-Wic Community College Ray Hoy explained to 47ABC that students can get their feet under them, and cut down on college debt, before they head out into the work force or continue their education.  Hoy says “that’s the luxury of this, the beauty of it – is that they’ll be able to move on to other institutions – if they graduate from Wor-Wic they can transfer to any university system in Maryland institution.”

47ABC is told the scholarship is available for all high school grads in the County, from both public and private schools.
