What to watch for on Md., Del. primary election day

The candidates have visited. The rallies have taken place. On Tuesday, voters will decide who will represent their respective parties.It’s primary election day in Delaware and Maryland. It’s primary election day in Delaware and Maryland.
In the race for the White House, 54 Republican delegates (Del. 16, Md. 38) are at stake between the two states. As for the Democrats, 116 (Del. 21, Md. 95) are on the line.
In Maryland, Representatives Chris Van Hollen and Donna Edwards will battle it out in what has been a tightly contested race. The two are vying for the democratic nomination, looking to replace U.S. Senator Barbra Mikulski who is retiring at the end of her term.
Former Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton and Joe Werner will battle for the democratic nomination in Maryland’s District One race. On the Republican side, incumbent Congressman Andy Harris will have to fend off Sean Jackson, Mike Smigiel and Jonathan Goff if he looks to have a shot at retaining his seat in the U.S. House.
Following today’s elections, first state Democrats will vote in September on who they want to represent their party in the race for a U.S. House seat. The seat is being vacated by Congressman John Carney. They’ll choose between state senator Bryan Townsend, Lisa Blunt Rochester and Sean Barney. That primary will take place on Sept. 13th.
Polls in both states opened at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
