Megan Outten projected to win District 7 Seat, prioritizes collaboration on new Wicomico County Council

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. — Wicomico County is expected to see a largely new County Council following the election. District 7 was one of the most closely watched races, as it was the only contest featuring three candidates: Democrat Megan Outten, Republican Ross Evans and Independent Joe Venosa.

With Outten projected to win with 1,789 votes, she discussed the importance of collaboration as the new council prepares to take office.

“We’re going to have an entirely new council and while I’ve been paying attention, I want to make sure that our entirely new council has a really good grasp on some of the challenges facing our residents,” Outten said.

She identified infrastructure, particularly water and sewer projects, as major priorities for the county.

“Our water and sewer is going to be a big priority, making sure we have an idea of where some of these projects stand and what our next steps are going to be,” she said. “That’s going to be a big push for me right now, is making sure that, you know, these next 100 days, making sure that we have a really good concept of what it is Wicomico needs to take those next steps forward.”

Outten said experience will be especially important as the new council begins its work. She plans to bring her experience as a Salisbury City Council member to the county level.

“I think it’s going to matter that we have experienced leadership individuals who have had time to make some of those difficult decisions, understand some of the nuance of local policy, and I’m excited to bring that experience that I had on City Council over to the county,” Outten said.

She added that building strong working relationships among council members will be a top priority as they work to address the needs of Wicomico County residents.

“Every single individual, I’ve had a really great working relationship to date. So I’m looking forward to the opportunity for us to really put forward some really good initiatives for the county residents,” Outten said.
