City Minute: Salisbury Fire Dept. shares tips for Fire Prevention Month
SALISBURY, Md. – In this week’s City Minute, WMDT’s John Trout and Salisbury Fire Chief Rob Frampton discuss important fire safety tips to keep in mind as we begin to make the switch into colder months.
With Daylight Savings Time just around the corner, Chief Frampton told WMDT that residents shouldn’t just be turning back their clocks, but also taking a moment to check their smoke alarms.
“I’m really checking smoke alarms every month, but, especially when you set your clocks back or set your clocks forward, it’s a good reminder,” Chief Frampton elaborated. “You should have a smoke alarm on every level of your house, outside of every bedroom… so that you get early notification.”
But it’s not just smoke alarms — families that have fireplaces should be sure to get them serviced at least once a year, especially before starting them up for the winter season. Additionally, for families using space heaters, be sure to keep at least three feet of space clear around the unit, and never sleep with a space heater on.
Chief Frampton added that families should consider investing in carbon monoxide detectors to add an extra level of safety to their homes.
