Sean’s House expands to Sussex County

LEWES, Del.– Sean’s House Sussex is a free non-profit mental health and wellness center for teens ranging between the ages 14-24 operating as a place where they can connect with others and prioritize their mental health.

Sean’s House started in 2018 after the son of co-founder of Un-Locke the Light Chris Locke lost his son Sean to suicide after battling depression.

Locke continues to honor his son by spreading the message to younger people, that if they are struggling they are not alone.

“People with depression, anxiety, or any other mental illness do not know what is lurking in front of them,” Locke said. “That is why Sean’s House Sussex is so important, it creates a place to help young people take the next step to getting the help they need.”

Manager of Sean’s House Sussex Tyler Coupe explains why they specifically wanted to bring support to the younger population.

“ transitioning from middle school into high school, now we transition a little more out of high school. Now you’re 17-18, 19. Are you going to college? Are you going to a trade school. That’s a new transition in life,” Coupe said. “So we think that window of age gives us the best chance to support people who may be in most need.”

Ester Moreno says her favorite part of being a Peer 24 support specialist is being able to connect with so many people.

“My favorite part is probably just being here and supporting everyone,” Moreno said. “I think that this location is going to bring so much joy and connection.”

Ultimatel, Coupe says that he hopes everyone who steps foot into Sean’s House feels safe and supported.

“No matter who you are, you are supported and safe here,” Coupe said.
