Wicomico County’s New Councilmanic District Lines

Salisbury, Md. – Elections will look a bit different in Wicomico County beginning this year with two new districts.

In February the Wicomico County Council voted to redraw district lines, removing two at-large seats and adding new districts 6 and 7.
The council’s unanimous decision came after a lawsuit in 20-23 that alleged the former map was racially discriminatory. Districts 1 and 3 are now minority majority districts.

“[The council] made the changes. And, what we had to do in return is to notify the voters of their new locations, their new precincts, and the new areas that they would be voting in on Election Day,” Elections Director of the Wicomico County Board of Elections Dionne Church said.

She said residents can check their voting information, including polling locations, district information and candidates by texting CHECK to 77788.

Church said she hopes people begin to vote and take advantage of Early Voting beginning on Thursday.

“The midterm elections are important. It is our gubernatorial election. The only way that you can make change is by letting your voice be heard,” she said. “So for our voters, your vote does matter. So please consider to go out during early Voting or on Election Day because your vote matters.”
