Humane Society preps for biggest fundraiser of the year

Officials at the Humane Society of Wicomico County sum it up as “amazing” when describing the progress some of the 300 dogs have made since being rescued a month ago.  Executive Director Aaron Balsamo tells 47ABC the outpouring of support has been so overwhelming.  “They used to be in the back of the cage, real shy” after the bust, but he went on to say on Friday “now they’ll jump right in your arms, happy as can be.”

Balsamo says people have literally been lining up to adopt those dogs.  And as much attention as they’ve received, he says some other dogs are seemingly overlooked. “Our adoption row, you know our mixed breed dogs, every single kennel is full with a dog.” Balsamo adds “we have a lot of dogs that are ready to go.”

He hopes those dogs may have the chance to go on Saturday, at the biggest fundraiser of the year.  Cause for Paws will bring out community members to participate in family friendly activities that will raise funds for the society.  “It’s for the animals it’s to support the animals.” says Dawn Ennis, who is a caretaker for many of the animals.

Ennis says as good of a job as the staff does, in the end the animals need a forever home.  Humane Society workers hope that Cause for Paws can do just that.
