FY17 Salisbury budget passes unanimously

With unanimous support Monday night, the Salisbury City Council voted to approved the 2017 operating budget.
The 57 million dollar budget includes a half-million for projects in downtown Salisbury plus funds for youth programming.
Under the budget, there will also be an increase in water and sewer rates starting this October.
Mayor Jake Day says rates have risen and fallen in the past few years, so this is a way to stabilize.
“I want to see us getting to a very stable pattern,” Mayor Day tells 47ABC. “But a reason for a rise rather than a fall or steady this year is our finance folks are just telling us that in order to maintain operations, we need a very very slight increase so a two percent increase this year.”
We’re told a copy of the adopted budget will be on the city of Salisbury’s website in the near future.
