Ravens Grounded In Middletown

The Sussex Tech baseball team saw their season come to an end on Thursday when they fell to Middletown 8-2 in the DIAA State Quarterfinals. The Ravens never got their bats going until it was to late, and weren’t able to pull off their 2nd straight upset of the tournament.
The Cavaliers would jump out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring on a pass ball and a RBI fielders choice. Luke Wooten would do his thing on the mound for the home team, limiting the entire Ravens lineup through most of the game, going 6 2/3’s, while scattering 6 hits. The Cavaliers were then able to open the game up to a 5-0 lead in the 4th after getting three straight RBI singles, including one from Colin Peluse.
The Ravens would finally have their chance in the 6th when they worked the bases loaded with one out. Sussex Tech would send a chopper back to the mound, which was returned to the catcher. he would drop it and try to recover in time before the run scored. The ump would rule it in time for the out, and the Ravens team would go crazy. Their 3rd base coach and a bench player would both be tossed.
But Tech wasn’t ready to give up just yet. Facing a 8-0 deficit in the 7th, they would work a runner on 3rd before Justin Hill would hit into the RBI fielders choice to score Trent Hearn. That was then followed by a single and two straight walks to load the bases. Tech was then able to draw another walk to bring in their second run of the ball game. But Middletown was finally able to force the groundout they were looking for to end the game, and send the Cavaliers to the state semifinals.
