Discover Delmarva Arts: Ballet On The Beach
ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md. — Dance, nature, and community come together in a one-of-a-kind performance set along the shoreline of Assateague Island State Park. It’s the fourth year Ballet On The Beach has made its way to Delmarva — trading the traditional stage for sand and saltwater.
“We invite leading dance companies and guest artists to perform each year, also feature eco-talks from environmental experts,” Founder and Director Vanessa Salgado said.
The unique setting is part of what makes Ballet On The Beach so special — giving both dancers and the audience a chance to experience the art of ballet in a completely different way.
“It’s really beautiful, and it’s such a picturesque place, so to be able to see art surrounded by the beauty here — it’s really special. We wanted to be able to share that with the community,” Salgado said.
“We have all these natural elements that enhance the dance; we have migratory birds, dancing dune grass — it all feeds into the performance,” Assistant Park Manager Meghan Rhode said.
With ballet companies from up and down the East Coast coming together for the performance, and beautiful Assateague as their backdrop, what more could you ask for?
“People come from all over the world to Assateague, the ballet just is one extra added element,” Rhode said.
Ballet On The Beach is on Saturday, Sept 19th at Assateague Island State Park from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, visit https://www.balletonthebeach.org/
