Salisbury Police Announce New Priority Dispatch System

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Police Department (SPD) has announced their implementation of the Police Priority Dispatch System (PPDS), designed to identify life-threatening situations and help prioritize calls for service.

Authorities say Salisbury residents calling for assistance on an emergency line nay notice new questions being asked by their Emergency Police Dispatchers (EPD). Ahead of the implementation of the PPDS system, Salisbury’s EPDs underwent extensive additional training to become certified in the Police Protocols of of the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. Senior dispatchers emphasized that standardized protocols help ensure every caller receives the same level of service, regardless of which EPD answers the phone.

“The [PPDS] is an important investment in public safety,” said SPD Chief Dave Meinschien. “It helps ensure that every caller receives the highest level of service while allowing us to respond more effectively to emergencies throughout our community.”

The new PPDS system will go live Tuesday, Jun. 16. To read more about the new system, click here.
