New report puts Facebook under fire

Log into Facebook and you can find videos of people fighting, statuses about hating different races, to a certain extent you can find just about anything.According to a new report by The Guardian Facebook has rules, but the lines are blurred.

A post about beating up the president, not ok. A post about beating your wife probably gets the green light.

That's why those like psychologist Dr. Kathy Seifert think social media outlets should consider ethics in how they monitor posts.

"People learn the rules of culture by what people around them say and do and express in lots of different ways," Seifert said. "Social media has become a shaper of our culture."

Recently social media has become harder to monitor with the addition of things like Facebook live which allow users to live stream their video to anyone who's watching. That's why those like Seifert say a crackdown is needed now more than ever.

"It does not need to be the wild wild west, my child who's seven does not need to see in real time what goes on in the streets with gangs and fighting and somebody trying to kill his wife," Seifert said. Most recently murderer Steven Stephens took to Facebook Live to broadcast his murder of an elderly man – eventually the video was taken down, but not before millions viewed it.

In the aftermath of the Steven Stephens incident Facebook announced plans to add 3,000 more post moderators.
