Traffic stop leads to heroin and weapon possession

The Delaware State Police have arrested a Milton man after a pursuit and traffic stop leads to heroin and weapon possession.

At around 7 p.m. Saturday evening a vehicle was traveling northbound on DuPont Boulevard in the right lane.

The driver was observed committing a traffic violation and troopers initiated a vehicle stop. The driver pulled into the Royal Farms parking lot in Ellendale and as police began to exit their patrol vehicle to approach the driver, the vehicle sped off.

Police say during the pursuit the driver was seen throwing suspected drugs from the vehicle. The suspect drove recklessly traveling on the wrong side of the roadway several times and failing to stop at stop signs.

The suspect continued to speed on Coverdale Road and turn on Mill Park Drive, running vehicles off of the road.

The driver identified as 25-year-old David L. Harmon then stopped at a private driveway and ran directly in front of the patrol vehicle and was struck causing a minor injury.

According to police, Harmon was transported by ambulance to the Nanticoke Hospital and admitted for a minor injury.

A heroin bag was found in Harmon’s possession and a search his vehicle revealed a handgun with bags of heroin, ammunition rounds and drug residue from the narcotics that were thrown from the vehicle.

There were a total of 20 bags of heroin located weighing over 2 grams, drug paraphernalia and a handgun was seized.

According to police, Harmon faces over 18 different charges including possession of heroin, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggressive driving, and resisting arrest.

David Harmon was also found to be driving on a suspended license and is prohibited from carrying a firearm due to a violent felony stemming from a Drug Dealing conviction on February 2, 2015.

A warrant was obtained and David Harmon was committed to the Department of Corrections in default of $82,000 cash bond.
