Two men arrested in connection with a reported knife threat in Rehoboth Beach

Police say two people were arrested in Rehoboth Beach in connection with threats that were made with a knife.
According to police, a 17-year-old Millsboro teen was arrested Wednesday evening, after his involvement in a confrontation near the Rehoboth Beach bandstand which officials say led to him threatening 19-year-old Anthony Merlo-Tijerino of Lincoln, with a knife. Police say Merlo-Tijerino was also arrested for his involvement in the altercation.
Around 6:10PM, police say Rehoboth Beach police officers were called to the area of the bandstand for reports of a fight going on. When the officers arrived, police say the men were separated and police could get statements from multiple witnesses to the altercation. According to witness accounts, police say the teen and a friend were arguing and play fighting when Merlo-Tijerino responded with abusive, race biased language.
The teen reportedly then reacted by getting a knife from his car, and advancing toward and threatening Merlo-Tijerino causing him to back up.
Police say both of the men were arrested on scene without incident or injury.
The teen was arrested and reportedly charged with one count of felony aggravated menacing, one count of felony terroristic threatening, and two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The teen was also reportedly released to a guardian.
Police say Merlo-Tijerino was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and released on a $500 unsecured bond.
