Pocomoke Tops Crisfield In Rematch, Head To Regional Title

With just a week to go in the regular season, the Pocomoke field hockey team hit the road to take on Crisfield in a showdown of two of the top teams in the Bayside South. The Warriors had a chance to clinch the South Title with a win. The Crabbers spoiled the party.

Monday night, the Warriors got their revenge.

Pocomoke played host to Crisfield in the Regional Semifinals Monday night and pulled out a 2-1 win to advance to the Regional Title match to face Queen Anne’s on Wednesday. The Crabbers came out firing early on, getting a score just over 3 minutes into the match on a broken break away, where McKayla Fuller was left unguarded in front of the cage and would send a shot home. That seemed to wake up the Warriors as they would take control of the possession the rest of the half. Pocomoke would have several great scoring opportunities with crosses to open players, but could never get a stick on it to finish off the play. Finally with 15 minutes remaining in the half, Pocomoke head coach Brandy Castaneda would go to her bench and put in Mia Kinsey, telling her she needed a spark.

She would deliver.

Just seconds left, she would take a pass in front of the cage, rip a shot that would hit off the near post, before sending the ball to Alexis Cullen who would finish off the play to tie the match. The teams would head into halftime tied at 1-1, but they wouldn’t stay there for very long. Just 30 seconds into the second half, a pass would find Peyton Becker alone at a post and she would slam it home. Just seconds later, Pocomoke nearly added another off a perfect cross. With 20 minutes remaining in the match, Crisfield seemed to finally wake up. The Crabbers took control of the possession and drew a couple corners. With under ten minutes to play, Lainee Pruitt would play a ball into the circle, where the Crabbers would fire three straight shots on frame, but Pocomoke keeper Dom Farrace would come up with saves on each of them before the clear. Crisfield would draw a corner as time expired, and had a chance to tie it. The ball though would hit off a Crabbers players foot though, with the penalty ending the match.
