Local artist looking to create large mural in Crisfield

CRISFIELD, Md. – Community leaders in Crisfield are pushing to get a mural in the heart of the historic district.

Artist Michael Rosato is working closely with the Greater Crisfield Action Coalition and the Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District Project to have a mural on West Main Street.

Members of the Crisfield Arts & Entertainment District Project say the mural would help breathe new life into the community.

Rosato’s preliminary drawings show African American crab pickers.

He says the mural is a chance to make a positive impact on the community and to celebrate the city’s history of the seafood industry.

“The boats, the watermen,” said Rosato.

“There’s a huge history down there and the oystering,” said Rosato, “It was built on oyster shells as they say in Crisfield and so, there’s going to be an element of that as well and we’re paying a respect to those guys who worked really hard in bringing the fruits of the bay, as we say.”

We are told the proposed mural costs over 21,000 dollars and would be funded by grants.
