Laurel man wanted for leading Milford Police on vehicle pursuit

Zackery Smith, 25, of Laurel, Del.

Milford Police are searching for a Laurel man who they say fled from officers after a physical altercation early Tuesday morning at the Brightway Commons apartments.

At around 2:08 AM, officers responded to a report of a physical altercation at a residence on Allen Way. Arriving on scene, an officer reportedly observed a suspect in the fight, identified as 25-year-old Zackery Smith, driving a vehicle in the area. Police say the officer activated his lights and sirens to signal for the Smith to pull over. However, the Smith did not stop and continued driving toward Lincoln, officials said.

Police followed the suspect through Lincoln, then back to Milford, then through to Frederica, where officers called off the vehicle pursuit.

Investigators say before fleeing, Smith was engaged in a fight with another person inside the residence on Allen Way, reportedly resulting in injuries to the victim. The victim was treated by Carlisle Fire Company personnel, officials said.

Milford Police have obtained warrants for Smith on charges related to the physical altercation and to multiple traffic violations racked up during the vehicle pursuit. Officials say Smith is also wanted by several Sussex County courts.

Anyone who knows Smith's location is asked to call Milford Police at 302-422-8081 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
