Gov. Meyer Delivers State of the State Address
(DOVER, Del.) – Delaware lawmakers came together Thursday afternoon to reflect on the past year, as Governor Matt Meyer delivered his first state of the state address.
After the administration’s first full year, Governor Meyer is thanking lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for the work they’ve done in the First State.
From talking about the Literacy Emergency Meyer declared when he first took office, to tackling housing shortages, there’s been a lot to cover.
Meyer also touched on issues surrounding insurance premiums in the state following the expiration of Affordable Care Act Subsidies.
As well as discussing energy alternatives in order to keep costs down for those across Delaware.
And Meyer wants to thank both parties for reaching across the aisle to keep the people of the First State’s best interests at the center of attention.
Governor Meyer says, “You want to see the state move forward? Do you want to see Delaware address these problems better than anyone else? This is not a great time, quite frankly, to look to Washington in our federal government, to solve these problems. We’re in it together. We can’t do it if it’s Democrats or Republicans fighting all the time.”
Meyer also touched on the high energy rates many in Delaware are facing as well as discussing potential alternatives.
“There’s the Public Service Commission that, almost any rate increase that Delmarva or any of the utilities want, including the water utilities, has to go through the Public Service Commission. So I am in the strongest terms saying to the Public Service Commission, use these tools, scrutinize Delmarva Power. Rates should not continue increasing,” says Meyer.
Governor Meyer says that a lot of the policies over the next year are going to be on the table when the General Assembly Re-convenes to discuss the budget.
