Wor-Wic Community College receives a grant in support of their driver’s education program

SALISBURY, Md. — The Rural Maryland Council awarded Wor-Wic Community College a grant that will support the school’s driver’s education classes.

Wor-Wic can now expand its course offerings in driver’s ed. With the funding, the school purchased another training vehicle, expanding the capacity of their program by almost 200 additional students a year. The school can now offer more flexibility for busy students by offering courses on Sundays.

Officials said the program always fills up quickly and that they prioritize making it affordable for students, keeping the fees at 300 dollars since 2014.

Wor-Wic Director of Transportation, Denean L. Jones-Ward, said, “The importance of our program means that we’re able to offer the class at an affordable price. We’re able to go to either school or to a person’s hall to pick them up. We actually have drivers that range from 16 years of age or up to over 60 or 70, which is amazing.”

The program includes 30 hours in the classroom along with six hours behind the wheel. Classes will now be held seven days a week from 7 am to 7 pm.
