eastern shore. 47 abc’s julian sadur spoke with both students and officials – on what was anything but a normal day at umes here at the university of maryland eastern shore, the campus is shut down to students flooding in the area causing a loss of power to the university. earlier today we spoke with some students as they found out from police that there would be no class. track those entering – u-m-e-s thursday morning were greeted by campus police – and those like volley ball players marta klafuric and kirstein finkwere glad to hear the news. we asked officer what’s happening he said the class is cancelled, so we were happy track both had no idea – what was going on on campus. i saw some flooding on like the side of the road otherwise it was just a bunch of debris in the road — so i didn’t expect school would be cancelled track on campus though – water had claimed – what used to be parking lot – grassy area – and roadway. even finding it’s way into the basement of – kiah hall. we had a great deal of rain, we’ve heard reports as much as nine inches of rain overnight our campus is ringed by two tidal creeks that hit high tide, so a combination of those two activities cause the water to rise unaturally here and shorted out a number of our electric systems track crews worked non-stop at the university – eventually finding the source for the power outages – and restoring it to most of campus. university personnel tell me they will notify students as soon as the universtiy is back up and running. reporting in princess anne, julian sadur – 47 abc campus officials say kiah hall which experienced significant flooding in its basement may be shut down for an extended period of time. we’re also told the university has found the source of the electrical problems – and that power has been restored to most of the campus. and another spot that is no stranger to the effects of heavy rain –
