Dorchester Economic Development Holds Career Resource Day

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – Finding a job is certainly no easy task. But one Dorchester County group made it a point Tuesday to try and help make it easier for a few people.

Dorchester County Economic Development had plenty to offer to those trying to get their foot in the door as part of their Career Resource Day.

Executive Director, Susan Banks says, “We just want to make sure that everyone in our community has access to, the resources that we have. We want our workforce to be ready and, be prepared when they go into interviews. And be able to go in and get a job.”

Dorchester County Economic Development says they planned to help up to 100 people throughout Tuesday afternoon. With one of them being Xavier Spencer who got plenty of help.

From resume building to understanding the need to dress for success; he feels he has the best chance to land a job.

“They taught us, a little training about, proper, clothing and, job prep. Like, when you’re going up for interview and things like that. Actually learn how to tie a tie today. They taught me how to tie a tie…” says Xavier.

And even if only a couple of people or just one person who came through the Cambridge Women’s Club Tuesday is able to land a job thanks to the efforts of those from the community, it’s all worth it.

“That would be a big win for us. We want just one person coming in feeling confident and ready to join our workforce is a win,” says Susan.

And it’s leaving someone like Xavier feeling set up to succeed.

He tells WMDT, “I feel confident, I feel like I changed my past. He was telling me, that’s something important you should do. Like, I just feel a little better, feel more confident about myself. And by the way, I could communicate an approach if I was going out for a job. Or, like you said, an interview like this.”
