SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s (SA) Office has secured a firearms conviction in connection with a shooting that took place in November of last year.

On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 35-year-old Terrance Terrone White, Jr. of Salisbury, was convicted on charges of firearm straw purchase and two counts of illegal possession of a regulated firearm. His conviction came after a three day jury trial presided over by Associate Judge M. Maciarello. White’s sentencing has been postponed pending completion of a pre-sentence investigation.

A firearm “straw purchase” is an illegal transaction where a person buys a gun for someone who is prohibited from owning one or for someone who does not want their name associated with the purchase.

On Nov. 16, 2024, White sold a firearm to then 31-year-old Dequan Bratten. On the same date, Bratten shot his estranged wife four times. There was also evidence received at trial indicating White provided ammunition to Bratten, showed Bratten how to use the firearm and was aware of Bratten’s intentions towards the victim. However, the jury declined to convict on charges that White was an accomplice to attempted murder.

“Those who deal in illegal firearms create a significant public safety risk to our community and they will be held accountable,” said SA Jamie L. Dykes. “Terrance White’s conviction reflects the unwavering commitment of Wicomico County law enforcement and my Office to holding violent offenders accountable and to protecting our community.”
