BREAKING: Somerset Co. Superintendent Stepping Down Effective Oct. 31

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. – Somerset County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell has resigned, effective Friday, Oct. 31.

The Somerset County Board of Education held a virtual special called board meeting on Monday morning, followed by a closed session.

After reconvening with the public, Board of Education Chair Matthew Lankford made the announcement about Tasker-Mitchell’s resignation.

“The Somerset County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell have mutually agreed that Dr. Tasker-Mitchell will step down from her position as Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools, effective October 31, 2025. Dr. Tasker-Mitchell thanks the schools for the opportunity and the Board of Education,” said Lankford.

The meeting was convened after this announcement. The reason for Dr. Tasker-Mitchell’s resignation has not been announced at this time.
