Governor Matt Meyer holds a press conference to assess fire damage at Lulu Ross elementary school

MILFORD, Del.– On October 27th Governor Matt Meyer along with other state and school leaders held a press conference to assess the fire damage and discuss as well as develop plans to get students back in the classroom.

Principal of Lulu Ross Kimberly Webb attended the press conference and she said that she is thankful that no one got hurt in the fire.

“Buildings can be repaired, classrooms can be recreated, materials can be replaced but our people cannot.” Webb said.

State Senator Dave Wilson, who represents the Milford community, says that the outpouring of support following the fire has been encouraging admidst efforts to rebuild.

“When the governor called me Sunday morning, I had no idea how bad it was,” Wilson said. “After going into the building today it’s just heartwarming to see the community come together.”

On Tuesday night following the press conference superintendent Travis Moorman announced that sixth graders from Milford Middle School would be sent to Milford Central Academy to allow for three grades of Lulu Ross students to use the space, with more solutions being developed in the coming days.

“I want our families to know, we don’t take these decisions lightly,” Moorman said. “We want our students back and we can’t wait to see them again.”

After assessing the damage from Sunday’s fire, both local and school officials agree on one goal– getting students back in the classroom as fast as possible.
