Body Cam Footage of Officer Involved Shooting Released

Shooting Investigation

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – Body cam video in a September officer involved shooting in Cambridge has been released.

On September 9th, Cambridge Police Responded to the intersection of Seaway Lane and Riverview Wharf.
30 year old Ryan Garcy was reportedly chasing a woman with a knife. When officers arrived – they found him nude.

Police gave Garcy verbal commands, he appears to run at the officers, after one appears to deploy a taser.
Garcy is then shot by a Cambridge Police officer. He would later die from his injuries.

We met with Cambridge Police Chief, Justin Todd about the shooting following the release of the bodycam video.

Chief Todd tells us, “I can’t speak on a lot of what happened that day, but the video I saw to speak for itself on on the incident and what what was done and the reasons why the incident had to end the way it did, unfortunately.”

The Maryland Attorney General’s Office is now handling the investigation, as is protocol with officer-involved shootings.

“You know, it’s continuously being investigated by the Independent investigations of the division. And they’re going to take the investigation from there. And we’ve been working well with them,” says Chief Todd.

While the investigation continues at the state level, in Cambridge, Chief Todd outlines next steps.

He says, “It’s a tragic incident that has that had to take place. Certainly, our condolences go to the family of Mr. Garcy. And also, you know, now we’re going through a process with our officer.”

WMDT reached out to the Maryland Attorney General’s Office Friday for comment. They have declined, citing the investigation still being open at this time.
