Jun. 7 – Real Men Making Strides

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer started the Real Men Making Strides campaign is as a fundraising campaign with 20 local leaders of the community to get men involved in the fight against breast cancer.
All the men have committed to wearing pink and fundraising the month of May. We wanted to pink out the month of May since all our Strides walk in Ocean City and Pink Ribbon events all surround the Fall with October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. Over 240,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. That does not mean that men are not involved in their journey because they are their wives, girlfriends, daughters, and friends. The affectual support is so important it’s unmeasurable.
The American Cancer Society’s local programs such as Look Good Feel Better and Road to Recovery work to hold the hands of cancer patients through their cancer journey, and after. We have over 30 Hope Lodges around the U.S. that provide cancer patients and their caregivers a free place to stay when they have to travel for treatment. The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has a mission to eliminate breast cancer as a major health threat to all people. Strides has over $86 million dollars invested in breast cancer research. I had a woman hug me 2 weeks ago telling me how the treatment, Herceptin saved her life. This is why holding the hands of patients through the journey is absolutely meaningful and important, but what is also paramount is how the American Cancer Society brings back new treatments, technologies, and information back to the Shore to fulfill our mission to its complete capacity.
