Thanksgiving dinner at PRMC

SALISBURY, Md.- Many of us have the luxury to be with family on Thanksgiving, but that’s not the case for all. Some people, like the emergency medical staff at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, worked Thursday to take care of others.

They told 47ABC that they don’t mind working Thanksgiving because they are doing what they love.

“It’s what we signed up for, we like to serve our community, it never shuts down, so holidays are kinda part of the package. Our families understand, their very supportive, and it just feels good to take care of everybody else,” Chrissy Freitas, charge nurse at PRMC, said.

They also got a chance to a dinner of their own with the support of the hospital and community.

“It’s nice that we can see the community supports us back knowing that we’re here for them,” Freitas said.

Although they worked, they still carried on the tradition of coming together on this holiday and making the best out of the day.

“The best part about working here on Thanksgiving is working with my work family, we’re all very close and supportive of each other and its nice to spend some time with them even though we’re in and out, but it’s nice being with them on the holidays,” Freitas said.

While they worked, the hospital made sure they got fed too.  It’s something special for those who dedicated their holiday to saving others.

“It’s really nice that people contribute to us, the hospital makes a nice Thanksgiving dinner that’s free for all the employees each Thanksgiving,” Freitas said.

But in the E-R,  they took it a step further with their own special feast. A doctor bought a turkey and then took it to Market Street Inn to have it cooked.

“He just wanted to bring togetherness for the E-R Department, that’s what he was really trying to accomplish and we’re just able to provide the ovens to help him cook it and put it together,” Rob Mulford, owner of Market Street Inn, said.

This act of kindness is something that those in E-R were thankful for.

“It’s just nice to know that they appreciate what we do and all the hard work we put in,” Freitas said.

“It’s great to be able to help out first responders and that people that have to work on the holidays,” Mulford said.
