With smoke in the air, WMDT meteorologists say “Take it easy” during peak heating times
DELAWARE. – The WMDT meteorologists have been tracking the smoke that’s been traveling to Delmarva from the Canadian wildfires.
Meteorologist Jake Grant said while Delmarva hasn’t been suffocated by the smoke as much as some northern states, like Minnesota, have been, you should still take caution when outside, because parts of Delaware are seeing remnants of smoke in the air.
“In those peak heating times between 1:00, and let’s say 6:00, that is when the air quality is typically worse during the day,” said Grant.
“When there’s more smoke particles in the air, higher levels of that, combined with the heat, it makes it harder for the human body to be able to breath,” he added.
These wildfires have not posed as much of a threat as the ones we saw back in 2023, but Grant said folks should still listen to the experts if you plan to be outside.
“It’s not a thing where we’re saying stay inside, like two years ago, but rather, maybe, take it easy outside. Don’t do strenuous exercise, or maybe just wait between after that peak heating of the day to head outside and get the walk in, and maybe a run outside,” said Grant.
