Charity Sign Auction in Ocean City Launches Today
OCEAN CITY, Md. -When Plak That was first contracted to remove old signs from Ocean City, they didn’t think much of it. But owner Wyatt Harrison says that all changed when locals started to take notice.
“So we just sort of held on to them and then, over the months, a lot of people asked us, what are you doing with 8th Street?” Said Harrison. “What are you doing with 4th Street?”
Harrison discovered that where he saw street signs, others saw lifelong memories.
“Instead of sending them to the scrap recycling, let’s try to auction these because each street kind of means a ton to different people.” Said Harrison. “You know, when people hit us up that like they got engaged on, you know, 22nd Street or whatever.”
The signs, which range from street signs to dune crossing and rip current warnings, will benefit a local charity close to Harrison’s heart.
“I wanted to pick a local nonprofit charity to, be the beneficiary of the proceeds.” Said Harrison. “There are a lot of amazing ones in our area. The Believe in Tomorrow, The Children’s House up, in Ocean City is one of my favorites.”
All the proceeds from the auction will benefit this Children’s House in Ocean City ran by Johns Hopkins.
The auction opened today and runs until Aug. 7th. To place a bid on your own Ocean City memory, visit https://plakthat.com/pages/ocean-city-sign-auction.
