Sysco Corporation reaches settlement following gender discrimination complaint
POCOMOKE, Md. – Sysco Corporation has agreed to pay a total of $182,354.26 as part of an agreement to settle a gender discrimination complaint.
We’re told the U.S. Department of Labor found that Sysco discriminated against 238 female applicants who applied for Outbound Sector jobs in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Investigators say they found that four Sysco facilities discriminated against women between November of 2013 and December of 2014, including the Pocomoke location.
Sysco will have to pay back wages, interest, and benefits to the women, as well as make 60 job offers to the original applicants when positions open up. The company has also pledged to revise their selection procedures and retrain the people who are responsible for recruiting, selecting, and tracking applicants.
