Sheriff Matt Crisafulli warns community about car seat heat safety
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – With high temperatures across the region, car seat safety is a top concern. Sheriff Matt Crisafulli of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office said interior vehicle temperatures can rise faster than many people realize.
“Take a day of 92 degrees outside. In a matter of minutes, the interior of that motor vehicle could reach temperatures as high as 164 degrees,” he said.
Crisafulli said that already this year, 15 children have died in hot cars.
He emphasized the importance of remembering to “look before you lock” and making it a habit to always open the back door and check the seats.
“Experts are saying this could happen to anyone, so prevention is key,” he said. “At different events throughout our community, we will have information on ways to prevent this type of tragedy.”
