Ocean City task force recommends increase in hourly parking rate

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Parking Task Force addressed two main areas of concern in its latest meeting.

First, members recommended an increase to hourly parking rates during peak season. They suggested a 50 cent increase to the price at the inlet which would make it $3.50 an hour instead of $3 an hour. Additionally, they think it would be best to increase the rate for street and lot parking from $2 to $3 hour. Officials would also like to offer free parking to everyone, Monday through Thursday, in the off season.

The second topic was whether or not to recommend an expansion of paid on-street parking. Terry McGean, the city engineer, says the task force ended up voting against that recommendation.

The final Ocean City Parking Task Force meeting will be held in about three weeks. After that, the task force will present its ideas to the town for a final review.
